BluYondr66
I have a British 303 pan that was filled with grease. I recently cleaned the grease out and upon inspection found that the pan body has a crack in the exterior that runs from top side down one of the ways/loading areas where 2 rounds get stacked. I hope that makes sense, I am not sure what the proper terminology would be for that. At any rate, I am curious if this is something that can be repaired, or is really just for display. I greatly appreciate your comments and advice. Many thanks, John
jim c 351
I suppose a skilled welder could repair it.If the aluminum center must be removed and replaced, then member Doug Stump is your man.Jim C
Black River Militaria CII
Pic would help. I have repaired quite a few Lewis drums, Brit, US and Jap including welding cracks in various places in the outside flange which are not uncommon. Cracks around the hub are not a problem unlees there is other daamge aside from stress cracks, etc.
MG08
As noted by Bob, it "can" be done. But IMA and others have pans on sale off and on for around $100 , and all those I have bought from them have been excellent. I also lucked into a few unique drums along the way. So from a cost effective standpoint,it may be better to just buy a new drum.... Also, If the pan is cracked, you will want o gauge it to make sure it is still square, and not warped way out of shape....
BluYondr66
Thank you all for your comments. I will see if I can get a picture and successfully upload it this weekend. I will also look up IMA and see what is for sale. Thank you!
