Flash Hiders for M2/M3 Carbine

The one in the photo is a T23 flash hider used with the infrared scope equipped T3 sniper carbine. Note there is no wing nut visible below the bore line as the nut was on the top side. It caused interference with the sight picture and was moved to the bottom on the adopted M3 flash hiders.

This flash hider was at WW2 ?

By the way, the one in the photo above appears to be a reproduction produced by Texas Armament in the 1970s, not an original made by Springfield Armory. The reproductions have a noticeable step where the body of the piece is attached to the cone. On original flash hiders, the cone is silver soldered to the body and almost no step is present.

T23 idea started in late 44 . Some test models were made before Nov . 29th . Several variations , including flashider / muzzle brake combos were developed . On Feb. 15 , 1945 the T23 was recommended for limited procurement . This was approved on March 8th . Production followed for 1700 pieces . Pilot modles were delivered on April 4th , 1945 as well as some new nylon nut models . The 1700 were delivered sometime after April 4th . The nylon lock nut and moving the nut underneth was approved and reccommended for standization on Augest 9th , 1945 . War ended on Sept . 02 , 1945 . Approval was granted on Sept. 27th for the M3 flash hider .
