I Get Depressed

Guys

I get depressed when I read some of the stories about foul ups on their paper work http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif . I went over my paper work I don't know how many times before I mailed it out and than it buged me when I seal it up. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif

its been 6 weeks now. If things are wrong when do ya start hearing about it.

I assume you are talking about a form 4 transfer?

 

Milestone 1- check should clear the bank within 2 weeks of receipt by ATF (request postal delivery confirmation of some kind, always)

 

Milestone 2- call in 30- 45 days after the check clears; your package should have gone pending within that time.

 

Milestone 3- Approval should be achieved 2-4 months after pending date.

 

Party time- approved papers should be received within 2 weeks of approval.

 

If things fall outside these parameters, I will usually follow-up & see what it going on.

Hi Joe. It took 109 days for my paperwork to be approved (not that I was counting). I just picked up my "Model of 1928" Savage a couple of weeks ago http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif If the dealer checked the box allowing them to talk to you, they can give you some info. Have your serial number handy. I called at 90 days http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif and was told if there was something wrong I would have heard from them by that time. GOOD LUCK!!!

Check should clear your bank in 5-10 days. Feds like cash.

I've always found that my stuff "goes pending" only a day or so after the check clears. I learn this by calling (ser. #, buyer and seller names often required)

Pending + 30 days I'll call again - just to check status - then once every 10 days or so thereafter.

I may be really odd (no comments anyone - and we know who you all are) but my stuff has been really good about being approved, pending ~ + 45 days.

 

Best I ever had was F4 @ 34 days from mail in to approval http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif and the worst so far was a damn F3 which should have taken 8 minutes, took 8 weeks. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif

 

The magic number seems to be pending + 45-60 days. Longer than that, I call and actually speak to the examiner.

It took about 4.5 months for the approval to go through for a SBR.

I had my citizenship form kicked back. That slowed things a tad.

 

The biggest part of this hobby is patients and lots of it!

I agree to all of the above. I also had problems on my form 4 and wished I had pushed mine through a little sooner. The Sheriff forgot to inclued his title with his name, so my form ended up in limbo for awhile. I am the patient type and didn't check on it until after 3 months. At that time, I called them several times, but kept getting the same reponse, that it was pending. They didn't even tell me that there was a problem with the form. I found that my dealer was a great help in getting things straight. It took me a total of nine months before the papers came back. If you feel something is wrong, don't be passive; Give'm a call!

I have been getting corp transfers back in less than 30 days.

If I may ask, why did they kick back your citizenship form ? I ask because I just filled mine out for my first NFA transfer - Form 4. I bought from out of state. The Form 3 transfer is done - now its sitting at the SOT holders place in-state waiting on me.

 

I am scheduled to get finger prints done next week - then its off to see the CLEO. I have been told that the Sheriff here does not sign personally - he delegates it and that person schedules a personal interview. Don't know how long that takes.

 

Someday, I will actually be able to mail the damn thing and start the clock. The citizenship form just makes so little sense to me that I am afraid I am filling it out wrong. I put my name on the first and second lines, then sign the bottom myself ?? That's what it seems to say, and what I was told on another board, but I just can't see the purpose for this form, and I don't want to make a mistake !!

 

Also - what is the best way to mail - certified ? I don't want to send using a method that requires the recipient to sign, if that is verboten for some reason !!

I considered doing a corporate (I have an LLC already) then transferring from the company to me, as I would be in possession as a corporate officer during the transfer process. That would get my toy in my hand faster, but cost an extra $200, so I decided to just go Form 4.

 

 

Any advice on getting it right the first time is appreciated.

Have one item that has been in transfer to my dealer for a little over 3 years. Dealer makes regular calls, letter etc. a couple times a month, always one reason or another (primarly that AOW apears to keep getting lost in the system, however, was sold by same dealer that is getting it in and several of us have s/n's on each side, purchased from the same batch).

 

Is my "extra" Ithica Stakeout AOW, so primarly purchased as a "walking" parts kit (I tend to like having too many parts ... the 1919A4 beign thw worst).

My Form 4 took just about 7 months for approval. I called BATF after 3 months, then 6 months. At the 3-month mark, I was told that the application was still "in process." No other information.

 

Then, at the 6-month mark, the agent said there had been a holdup of my fingerprints at the FBI. According to the FBI, I didn't exist (oh, really???). The BATF agent actually straightened out the mess for me (yeah, he really did!).
