WTB, MP-38, tube gun*

Recommended Posts

I would really love to buy an MP-38.......I have MP-40, (erb), and it is excellent....Just wanting to go one step further, and get my hands on the MP-38, if possible. :D

Not a lot of new MP38 receiver tubes were made and registered. I believe Wilson Arms made some and know of at least four MP38 tube guns assembled by CII acquaintances in the the last fifteen or more years so they are out there. An example shows up for sale now and then. One fo the CIIs who assembled a couple of the tube guns had a difficult time selling them for some reason. Prices were about the same at the time as for an Mp40 tube gun. Leads one to believe that they are not very popular. FWIW

I had an MP-38 built from a parts kit on an Inland Arms, Austin, TX receiver. It worked fine, but was considerably heavier than an MP-40.

,,,Thanks, Black River, and I read all thru a discussion on a MP-38 thread pages back last night.....were you included a lot of insight to the tube versions of the gun......Whenever you talk, I listen!!!!

....Do you ever get to the MG Shoots at Knob Creek Rg?....(Apr & now the Oct canceled), I would like to meet you here.

...I hope someone comes along and wants to sell their MP-38; who knows, someday, before I kick the bucket!

Thankyou always for your insight on thesepages.

MP38s seem to be hard to come by. I put out a WTB ad on Sturm and got in touch with my usual NFA sources for either a tube gun or genuine C&R (preferred) but only got one reply. The guy wanted $73,000 for a genuine C&R MP38 -- a tad high in my estimation so I let that one go! I was outbid on GB on a tube gun a while back and I think it ended up selling for $26+ K.

Thanks Max, I read your entries on a past MP-38 thread here. .......I learned a lot just reading past pages on the MP-38 (erb or Wilson) versions....ty

*It was on here that I got help locating a MG-42 optic that goes on the Lafette tripod. I searched for 2 years, and one of the guys here said he spotted an optic in a gun-shop in Boston, Mass, and they were not sure what it was.....And it was perfect!....So this is the place one can get help, thanks again.

I have an MP38 tube gun made by Harry O'Connel. I think he made a handful back in the day. My parts set is mismatched but it all looks great on the gun. It is the only subgun I have that has NEVER jammed or failed to fire. It runs like a swiss watch. It is great gun for a first time subgun shooter to try. If you come across an O'Connel gun do not hesitate if the price is right they are well done in my opinion. dan

I was looking back at prior posts researching if the MP38 tube receiver was different from the MP40 tube receiver, and I guess this answers it. In other words, you could not use an MP38 parts kit on an MP40 tube receiver to build an MP38 tube gun.
