The Ebay Idiots

Recommended Posts

This might not be quite what you expected, but read this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...1&category=4720

This magazine only holds 10 rounds.

Yeah right!

Ebay (the folks who run it) are so freakin stupid. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

I like the 20-rounder listed on there too...same seller; listed as a "Model 20". Uh huh. Does that mean it won't work in a 1921? Holds only 10 rounds. Yeah. And it's a Seymour...bids are up to $33.00 already!

They are less idiotic than you might think at first (or, I'm not sure who the idiots are).

Ebay imposes a limit on magazines that can be sold on Ebay. 10 rounds is OK; more than 10 rounds isn't. They don't check, but if you get turned in, they terminate the auction and after a couple times suspend the seller.

They don't understand how magazines work, and so they require that you say... (even on under 10 round capacity magzines) that you state the capacity. ie, "This magazine holds 10 rounds, and is OK per Ebay regulations."

If you say that, its OK. If you don't, they may well come down on you.

So look closely, and you find the sellers (wink wink) say the right things, and the buyers KNOW this is a 20 round mag, and they get what they want.

So, I'm not, as I said, sure exactly who the idiots are.

or the people who bid the damn things up to twice their normal price? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif

Someone apparently didn't use the proper description when posting a patent date mag on there recently. It's now an "invalid item" and no longer listed.

I think Chris has it figured out. Ebay lives the best of both worlds. They have their 10 rd rule to cover their legal or public relation butts, but know all too well what their customers are really selling. Meanwhile they reap the benefits of those sales under the guise of ignorance.

I suppose one could list a L or C drum on ebay, the seller would not be out of line stating that it will hold 10 rounds. They just aren't saying anything about the additional 40 or 90 that can go in. To those who bid and overpay. In time they will learn. Well ok some learn, snicker..... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

About a week ago on Ebay I saw a drum listed as a "50 unit dispenser". I got such a kick out of it I emailed the seller just to tell him thanks for the good laugh. He wrote back thanking me and said screw the ebay police. I checked back a few days later and the auction was either completed or the ebay nerds figured it out.
