I had a local gunsmith remove my 16-1/2" barrel from my TM1 carbine so that I could better polish the feed ramp.

While the barrel is off I'd like to swap-out the 3/4" grip mount and install the 1/2" grip mount in preparation for my Form 1 SBR conversion in a few months.

How does one go about removing it from the receiver? This thing is really in there tight!

Any suggestions will be appreciated...

After I removed my 16 inch Barrel to install a 14inch Green Mountain Barrel with Welded Cutts, I decide to polish and change the 3/4 Grip Mount too.

I put the Grip Mount in a Bench Vice, sprayed some Kroil in the slot. Using a Block of Wood wrapped in Scrap Leather against the Barrel opening, Tapped the Block of Wood with a hard Rubber Mallet it came off. Let it sit over night when you use the Kroil Lubricant before Tapping.

I also drilled and counter sunk the Grip Mount to accept the Horizontal Forgrip Screw into the Receiver to make a Quick Disconnect Barrel System for my 3 Barrels, Live Shooting Barrel, Blank Barrel and 10in Dummy Barrel

Sure would like to see a photo of the grip mount modification you made.

I would gladly send you photos, but my Company sent me to Georgia, I will not be home till April. One key thing to do this is to have the Tap and Die for the Horizontal Forgrip Screw. I purchased the Set from Doug Richardson about 20 years ago. By using the a cut down Horizontal Forgrip Screw it blends in better and most of the Screws are the same Tread Pattern. The Tread Pattern is an Early 20 Century Tread Pattern not easy purchased at the Local Hardware store. Some specialized Hardware or Machine Shop suppliers might carry the Tap and Die Set, the size escapes my memory, and I am not home to dig it out.

You can check Doug Richardson website, even if he no longer stocks them you will know the size.

Well, I was finally successful in removing that 3/4" grip mount but I had to destroy it in doing so.

Using a Dremel, I carefully cut a series of deep grooves in the mount at the point where it attaches to the receiver.

This relieved enough stress/tightness in it that I was able to tap it out.

Kroil didn't work.

Heat didn't work.

Muscle didn't work.

Oh well. It's done now.

:)
