John Ryan
That cross section one looks interesting I picked up a couple of BM59 bolts last year. These bolts are USGI Garand bolts converted by Beretta with relief cuts to allow the bolt to better pass through the feed lips of the BM 59 magazine. They have been lightly engraved on the top so you can see that the mods have been done. These two were once USGI bolts from IHC and SA. . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/M1/Bm59%20parts/DSCF2735.jpg . Here you can see some of the modifications made on the right side. New SA Garand bolt on top. BM 59 bolt on bottom. . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/M1/Bm59%20parts/DSCF2741.jpg . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/M1/Bm59%20parts/DSCF2743.jpg . Here you can see a bottom view of the relief cuts. BM 59 bolt on left. New SA Garand bolt on right. . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/M1/Bm59%20parts/DSCF2753.jpg . From the front you can really see where Beretta took some meat off. BM 59 bolt on left. Notice the "P" electro penciled on the front of your Springfield Bolt & a similar "P" on the F - PB - B.M. 59 bolt I posted. I just checked & I have a converted Bolt (Springfield -2SA) that has a very faint electro pencil "P" at the front. I've never noticed them or at least paid any attention to them before. Does your IHC Bolt have a "P" also? Some kind of Beretta or Italian Proof Mark? Anybody know how to say "Proof" in Italian - does it start with a "P"? Anyone else have Bolts with similar "P"s? Breda new made BM59 Bolts with a "P" would indicate an Italian requirement vice Beretta shop practice. Cool, More Questions. TopN
John Ryan
topN It looks like the F - PB - B.M. 59 bolt you have has two drawn "P". Both of my converted bolts have a "P"drawn in the same spot. This pics is a little better. I just noticed punch marks on these converted bolts, just above the drawing #. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/M1/Bm59%20parts/DSCF2739.jpg JR
MRJ
JR - The punch marks were applied in US after successful proof firing of an assembled M1 rifle. MRJ

I have other bolts marked PB BM59 with no other markings ,they are stamped not etched .
mcshot
Have my safe queen out as friend wants to trade for Type 1 NM garand and another feels I should look to trade for an M1A super match as magazines plentiful and cheap. Anyway am reading all the BM62 posts and got to this thread. My bolt is stamped: "03-033-3 PB" with the P as reflected above.mc
