Repro Parts Again

Recommended Posts

I think you're asking if new Kahr parts work in old, full auto Thompsons. Generally, no they don't. You're talking about parts that Kahr makes now for whatever they call their Model 1927A1 Thompson Semi-Automatic Carbine, which has a different receiver design than a full auto Thompson made by either Colt, Savage, Auto-Ordnance, or a West Hurley gun.

Not exactly. I don't think Kahr has changed from the West Hurley design on the grip hanger, which has a 3/4" channel, versus 1/2" on the earlier (Colt, Savage, AO Bridgeport) grip hangers. This means if you put a West Hurley or Kahr? horizontal or vertical grip on a WWII grip hanger, there will be some play because you are putting a 3/4" channelled piece of wood on a 1/2" grip hanger. It won't work the other way around without removing some wood from an early grip to be used on a West Hurley or Kahr? Thompson. If I'm incorrect about the Kahr channel, and Kahr has changed the measurement of the grip hanger since purchasing the Thompson from West Hurley, someone please correct me, as I'm making the assumption they stayed with the WH design.

As far as the West Hurley Model of 1927A1 Semi-Automatic Rifle design, and Kahr's versions of it, the West Hurley models use an M1 buttstock, so any WWII M1 Thompson buttstock will fit. I assume Kahr has not changed this, but I could be wrong. A Model of 1921 or 1928 buttstock would not attach without modification, since the early buttstocks are designed for the removable buttstock feature on the full auto models, and incorporate a latch that is not present from the factory on the West Hurley or Kahr models.

You may get some more specifics on this, particularly with the newer Kahr models, if you post your question on the Semi-Automatic Thompson board.
