I was speaking with Greg Fox at KCR about this and he suggested to rub Armor All on it to brighten the dull finish. I was just curious about others actual experiences to preserve or restore their original cases. I do not want to hurt the value of the case. Ltcboy Posted October 18, 2003 Report Share Posted October 18, 2003 I would use KIWI shoe polish to protect the case from any further dry rotting. The KIWI will darken it up naturally and it will get rid of that whitish grey color that you have on it. When you open the can, put a match to the can so that it starts a flame. This will melt the KIWI into a liquid and it will allow it to be applied more easier. This may sound like a pain in the a ss to do this , but I think that it would really bring that case back to life. MIke Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
RickV Posted October 18, 2003 Report Share Posted October 18, 2003 I would suggest using "Pecard's Antique Leather Dressing". I use it on all my slings. It doesn't darken the leather and there's no buffing required, just rub it in and you're done. I would think you could get a can of it at most leather goods stores or better gun shops. normandy123 Posted October 19, 2003 Report Share Posted October 19, 2003 Is this case covered with leather (?) the ones I have seen are made (covered) with a paper like material with the aligator texture added. I don't know if paper will respond well to oil based cleaner preservative and the glue that holds it on the wood might not like it either! I would check with a restoration specialist at a natural history museum or local antique dealers to send you in the right direction for an expert.... A letter was sent off to Tracie Hill asking him for his idea.
