Melvin
In 1973 the city of Alanta GA offered 18 Thompsons for sale. I was lucky to have owned one of the Colts. Years later I was lucky to find a copy the August issue of the magazine " Guns ". On page 55 there is an advertisement ran by the city of Atlanta for the guns that were being offered for sealed bid. I sold the Thompson years ago. While going through some old paperwork I found the magazine. I know some board members own some of these guns. If you have one of the APD guns and would like the magazine I would be happy to pass it to you. PM me with your mailing information and I will get it to you. Atllaw
That is awesome. I live in Atlanta and never realized they sold their Thompsons. All I had heard of was the Winchester 73s. Have a few pics of the gun you could share?
Ron Mills
Wow interesting. I wonder how many Roger Cox bought. Thanks for the post.

mnshooter
Wonder what was covered in the "Guns of Afghanistan" article. Same article today would feature a major amount of US ordnance. Edited December 6, 2021 by mnshooter
Roland the Thompsongunner
I remember that gun almost bought it and settled on my Bridgeport instead. Miss Millers gun shop wish it was still around

Sandman1957
Chuck have the magazine safely in hand, thank you so much. Right now on a generator. Power out coming up on 3 days. King George, VA got hit hard by the storm. Trees and limbs down everywhere. Looks like a hard artillery barrage. Thanks again,Steve
Grasshopper
Hi All, Great to see the "For Sale" sign for those guns. I've one I call "Ugly Tommy". Marked "A.P.D. #1" on the LHS of the receiver. Not a good looking Thompson but I really enjoy it! Grasshopper
