Mid 15s. I called on this and seller says the Upper and Lower halves match, serial 552,XXX

i didnt know the early features, ladder sight and finned barrels were on guns that high in number

Here is what he said in a e mail

It starts with "S" the upper and lower serial numbers match.
Thanks
Luke

Still a great deal IMO at less than 16k with 1k worth of extras

Gunbroker photo 97/115 of the ATF form has S387192 written on the tax stamp. The seller did go to the trouble of XXX ing out the last few of the serial number in the serial number block on the form. I think they may be Blanchard grinding marks. Definitely missing the compensator pin and the finish.

Great Catch,Bridgeport28a1.

My take on it if it matched would be a great shooter at prices below what WH's have been bringing on auction

Dozens of photos of relatively worthless extra wood, sling, and mag pouches, but no photos

of the bolt, actuator, inside of receiver, trigger housing parts, rear sight, etc. etc. it is interesting

that the finish appears to be evenly and totally worn off. Will be interesting to see what it goes for.

Nice catch on the serial No.

Any thoughts on what would still be a good high-end price range on this gun? I have begun shopping for my first Thompson and was thinking about bidding. I joined this forum to learn more about these guns and to hopefully avoid a newbie mistake. If this one looks like a newbie mistake, I'll pass. Thanks.

Ive seen significantly nicer guns sell at $18-19 in the past year. Then theres the colt that didnt sell at $26,000

I dont think the finish could be thinner. Guy must have polished it daily to wear it down so bad. 3 years ago I would have said its a correct price. Today? I think the seller got $4,000 over market. Having endless great pics probably helped. Maybe the Thompson market is coming back ?? I do see less of them for sale lately. But I see less of everything lately. Sellers drying up a bit

Transfer times are still and issue and fhe fact that there are more Thompsons on the market than normal. Another fact is the new NFA buyer is changing. More modern guns are hot now, not so much the common vintage stuff. Also guns under $20k are selling.

Maybe things are coming back. Rock Island will have 3 Colts, 2 WW2 tommies, 2 Pre 86s and 2 WH in their upcoming April Auction.

No pre WW2 except a Bergman MP18 with snail drum which was the first shoulder held machine gun.

At these auctions you can really get burnt unless you are there. I know of a ringed barrel on one and two dewats that were not disclosed

to be dewats even though very visible in person. Guns will hold and increase in value in todays falling stock market but then

so many whacked by the downturn wont be buying guns!!

Maybe all the old timer collections have been sold. Less supply is what Im seeing. Or sellers are waiting for prices to rise. I see lots of guns on gunbroker priced $5,000 above the market. People who cant accept where the market is is my guess. Or dreamers.

Definitely less Thompsons for sale lately

Wait times will be a drag on the market. Individual to dealer has risen to 4 months now. Im looking at 14-16 months on a transfer from mwt. And at 4 months the gun still isnt in
