Grey Crow Posted October 27, 2003 Report Share Posted October 27, 2003 Zoo, When the bolt moves forward stripping a cartridge from the magazine it pushes it home into the chamber. Once the round is seated the base is pushed under the edge of the extractor, the round is fired, as the bolt returns towards the rear the extractor pulls it from the chamber, as it moves towards the rear the ejector strikes the base of the empty cartridge forcing it to the right and out of the ejection port. If the ejector is not functioning properly you have an empty cartridge hanging on the front of the bolt, or possibly floating loose in the frame. I have had fired cases hang in the chamber area in both the Thompson as well as a few Colt pistols. In most cases it was just a fluke that required no modifcations to the guns.
