WW2 Bazooka DoD Information

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have info on dates of manufacture or issue of WW2 bazookas?

How about the serial number with a - in front of the 1st number... Legit?

Below is the M9A1 of the Belgian Commando Museum, but I have seen the same style on other examples...

No GE marking, so I suppose it wasn't made by GE but rather Bigelow...

Can anyone confirm all this???

Thanks

Order was placed with GE on May 19 , 1942 . Building began within 24 hrs and the first units were delivered for testing 4 days later. Over 2 weeks of testing resulted in some changes and acceptance . The first 5,000 were built and delivered to troop ships between June 10 and June 18 , 1942. GE was the only producer till June of '44 . GE delivered it's 300,000 unit in late '44 . Production stoped in May of 1945 . Ge made appx. 450,000 to Bigelow's 40,000.

My M9A1 has a serial number of 201,xxx and has the GE stamp by it. I would think the lack of "GE" would indicate Bigelow , but that's just a guess. My unit does not have a "-" , but it is a six digit instead of a five , but I don't know if that's the reason.

Thanks for that!

I have seen the models made by GE which have the GE below the serial number and I have also observed M9A1 models of which a 6 digit number is preceded by letters CB (Bigelow????)

My M9A1 however also has a - in front of the 5digit number...

  • 5 weeks later...

Salem Steel in Winston Salem, NC made M1A1s.(not sure about other models) I have talked to prior owners son but he has no records from WWII. If they any ever show up he promised to call me. He had a factory demo launcher tube but it was stolen about 10 years ago. He said it did not have the wire wrapping. I am not sure if they made the steel parts under contract for someone else. They also made rockets. He gave me one of the M10s with old style fins. I told him this is a rare piece as it is very dangerous to inactivate one and the few remaining are prob all factory demos or just never filled.
