I saw it on gunboards, no mention of what magazine it was in.

Maybe someone else knows?

I actually handled that gun when Gary Johnson had it. The article was in a late 1980s issue of The Complete Book of Assault Rifles Magazine, Gary probably still has a copy for reference. Gene Pretzeus, who was also included in the article, passed away in 1999.

Nice article. I think this other thread has another picture of that .30 prototype being test fired by the USMC?

I know I have a copy of the magazine that I bought back then.
