Michael Sullivan
Were the M1 Thompsons ever equiped with a compensator?
Ron Mills
There were variations of Thompsons that had "gone to war"; but none of the original M1's or M1A1's were equipped with Cutts compensators, as they were an added expense. However, during the many arsenal rebuilds, compensators found themselves on smooth barrels of M1's, etc. I've observed a 1928 with M1 rear sight including the protective ears, plus a smooth barrel with compensator. But back to the original question: No. Hope this helps!
Phil Askew
Just to add some fuel to this fire. I have seen two different M1's with the 28A1 smooth barrel and a pinned frt sight. I would say anything is possible during a wartime field repair. Just my .02.
