md66948
What is this sticking out the front of my WH Hand Guard? Can it be replaced with a GI Hand Guard? Yes, that is a bayonet lug on the barrel. I have no idea why it is there. This WH is a 1992 build that has never been fired. I will post more pictures of the entire rifle. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/921/gwcuhn.jpg

M17ap
Possibly a mount for some type bipod ???
md66948
This is what I found. looks like the knurled knob is mounted on the front of the wood hand guard. I tried to twist it off but I could get it to budge. Looks like the standard hand guard mount on the 1927.

Frank Iannamico
I second the idea of mount for a bipod, to go along with the bayonet lug!

hawksnest
"but its knurled." May be an early war West Hurley? Edited April 17, 2020 by hawksnest
WW2Collector39-45
Try taking the sling swivel off, and see if that frees the mystery knob. Could be the front screw might be holding it in place?
md66948
Well one thing I am grateful for that it's not part of the hand guard mount. New Hand guards are cheap enough to put another one on. Edited April 17, 2020 by md66948
anjong-ni
And the compensator was modified to mount the bayonet. Somebody put a lot of work into this. It is pretty unique looking. I wouldn't change anything. ...Phil

M17ap
Maybe for this cheapo bipod. Knurling helps to stabilize it from rotating as gun is heavy. Just my opinion.
