dalbert
Does anyone know the name or designer, caliber, and approximate design date of the submachine gun in the photo? The designer is the individual holding the SMG. http://www.sturmgewehr.com/dalbert/Misc/MysterySMG-2.JPG David Albertdalbert@sturmgewehr.com

RoscoeTurner
Interesting photo in another light, you don't often see photos of early warrant officer uniforms.
dalbert
David - it's the Cook Submachine Gun. This pic and a writeup on the gun is on pg 407 of Frank's US Submachine Guns book Jerry, You are absolutely correct. I knew it was listed in Nelson's book, but I did not realize Frank had included the gun and photo in his excellent book, which I should have checked first. Thanks! dalbert
I was contacted this week by the son of the designer of the Cook Submachine Gun. He provided the following information to me, and ok'd it being posted here on the board. "I found your post asking about the designer of the Cook Submachine Gun. He was my Father, WO1 Loren C. Cook. It was circa 1950, give or take. It was just one of many he designed and built while stationed at Springfield Armory. My older brother actually fired this one when he was 4 or 5 as a demonstration of its controllability. It was chambered for .45 acp.I hope this helps. I haven't seen that photo for many years. I thought you would like to see his first and also his favorite. The Army would only supply him with .45acp and 30-06.#1 Cal. 45acp" Here is another photo he provided of his father: Any comments are appreciated. MadCat
Bull pup BAR? Looks like it. If you read the caption the date is 1954. I wonder how this would have performed in the conflicts to come if it had been adapted. Pretty cool looking.
