bosco
I realize the price of Thompsons guns are going up in price everyday, but I just want to share the asking price of an Auto Ordnance Corp. 1928A1 that is being asked at a local gun shop. The gun is an A.O. WWII Thompson produced in Bridgeport, Conn. (sometime during the war). Possibly arsenal refinished and reworked at some time. It has a "Cutts" compensator, detachable rear stock, stamped Lyman site, and smooth actuator knob. The barrel is dull blue and not parkerized. The barrel fins are also a bit thin (possibly the original barrel). The weapon is still marked US Model 1928A1 (no grounding off of numbers). Accepts 20/30 mags, 50 and 100 round drums. Asking price $16K. I understand that without actually seeing the weapon it's difficult to determine the value. But I do remember when I paid $125 for my first Harley and would have never thought I'd spend more that $10k for another. Is this asking price out of line ... ? Or is his the future of Thompson collectors cost....? Bosco

Walter63a
bosco, sight unseen, $16,000 sounds about right. However, I would insist on seeing it in person, or some very clear photos, for that price. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Good luck, Walter
mp40
Ok, This subject is really a bad one for me, as it reminds me of--stock brokers-- in the hobby just to buy low and sell high...I thought that all of us where into Thompsons to admire them, shoot them and collect them, not just "sit on them" in hopes of retiring on the profits generated on their sale....I guess that the fact that I don't own one in this anti class 3 state makes me all the more sensitive to the "speculation game" that is going on in the class 3 world..Because when I do move to Idaho, I want to be able to afford either a Thompson, MP40 or even a MAC11...I know, that since the 86 ban, it is truly a matter of supply and demand..But this is something else...
