Book Review: New Mauser Manufactured Luger Book

Recommended Posts

All,

I bought a new Luger book last weekend at OGCA, and I think it's an excellent resource that will sell out quickly. I thought folks here might want to know about it. The copy that I purchased was numbered from 1090 books, and I believe that is the total amount of the first printing. You never know if it will be printed again, and I predict this will become a difficult to find book in the future. It's a $125 book. I'm not really a Luger collector, (I'm more of a Luger book collector!), but I do own one Erfurt Luger, and have an appreciation for all of them. Here is a review of the new book that I posted on Amazon:

The Mauser Parabellum 1930-1946, Analysis of a Million Luger Pistols (Hardcover)

by Don R. Hallock and Joop van de Kant

From a collector perspective, this is a "must have" Luger book! It covers Mauser manufactured Lugers, and the level of detail is unmatched. Most of the photos are in color, and the amount of data presented to the reader reflects the exhaustive level of research that went into this work by its two authors. The presentation is a bit different than most firearm books, and I really like the many "Collector Variations" features, which each include a full page picture of a featured Luger, with marking callouts and notes of collector interest. It also includes details of many accessories, and has a section covering reproduction Luger items, as well as faked items. I have to give this new book the highest rating. I am very happy to add it to my collection. For Mauser manufactured Lugers, this will be the first book I reference from now on, which is saying a lot, since I have 14 books specifically covering the Luger in my firearms library. This book was selling fast at the gun show where I purchased it, and I believe it will sell out promptly. Get one while you can!
