Ron Mills
If I recall correctly, Rat Patrol used the same 2 Thompsons that were used on Combat. Vic Morrow used both #8245 (the one with the "oversized" wide open compensator) and #4090 (the one with the crossbolt buttstock). Both were what Curtis Earl referred to as part of the "MGM guns". I can still find no proof that Vic ever carried a "wooden mockup" during non-firing scenes. Wood doesn't glare in the sunlight... Incidentally, #4090 along with #5035 were the 2 used to gun down James Caan in The Godfather at the toll booth. Thanks for the nice pic, Arthur. Couldn't quite make out the serial number. Those Colts sure took a beating over the years. Ron Edited August 12, 2022 by Ron Mills
Arthur Fliegenheimer
Ron For some reason when the show was filming in Spain for part of the first season they didn't have access to TSMGs. The Spanish military couldn't provide any? Tried to get clear pic of serial number. No go. Could be #4090
Ron Mills
Shoot, tough to tell. But #4090 had the regular sized compensator and it LOOKS to be (I could be very wrong) the one in the pic that has that front end. Dang wish we had better pics. Very interesting that Thompsons weren't part of the 1st season half or so filmed in Spain. GIJive may be able to shed some light on this, or ye olde respected colt21a Ron. I should've written down the times I've seen these 2 famed "MGM Thompons" in other films and TV shows. Nice subject, Arthur! Hopefully will spark some good discussion. Petroleum 1
The show beginning was cool when they flew over the sand dune in their jeeps.
