Brad, thanks for letting us know. Unfortunately, I currently live in New Yorkislavia, where it is illegal to own fully automatic weapons, unless you happen to be a wildlife management officer (go figure). http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif

Regards, Walter

P.S. They are beautiful, especially the 1921 Models. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The 1921A Model is the pick of the litter. The 1927 Model has a military 4th pattern Cutts which usually indicates rebarreling. The 1921AC is described as reblued and its wood refinished with a police background. Not unusual since about 99% of the transferable remaining Colt TSMG's have police backgrounds. If you average the expected auction selling price of the three Colt's it is $22.3K. Even if a Worcester drum is included, that is surely way above the $16K figure some board memebers have indicated as what one would pay for a 90% to 95% Colt. The fact that JC Devine expects at least $18K for a reblued Colt speaks volumes about what an original conditioned Colt should bring.

Arthur IMHO an auction sale will generally bring more for for an item than a 2 party sale. Of course Devine is going to talk this auction up. That is his job. I would not be surprised if the 1921A goes for more than $20,000. The 1921AC should not bring more than $20,000. I may go and watch the fun. It is really great to get to look over such historic firearms for sale.

What an interesting take on the auction you have Arthur.

Let me just tell ya how I feel about the auction.

Cream of the Crop: The M1. Why? First of all, it ain't a Colt. Second of all its in the VERY early SN range and even though its refinished, its still fits into WW2 history. That is what I am after anyway.

IMHO this is the price order of the guns:

1921 or 1927 will sell for the most money.

21AC next

M1

Hurley 28.

My projected prices:

21===18K-20K

27===18K-20K

21AC===15K-17K

M1===9K-11K

28H===7K-9K

Post what you think!

Since I like to look at wood, what did you guys think about the stock color? Not much of the elusive "red" color. And what about the shape of the semi auto 27 front grip? Suppose its original. Perhaps as Arthur mentions in its rebarreling, the front grip was changed also. The rear grip (on the 27) also appears to have some different lines too.

One more thing. This JC DEVINE asshole wants a 15% buyers premium! How someone like that can stay in business is beyond me. This fee should come out of the sellers pocket, NOT the buyers.

Just lost my bid!

If this auction is opperated like Butterfields, Sotheby's, Camden House, Christies, etc, the winner of the auction also pays an additional 15% fee on the final price to the auction house and the seller is charged possibly as high as 30% on the final price. Devine gets it from both ends.

John,

Your appreciation for all things not Colt is indeed amusing. Of course if it were not for the original Colt 1921, your Blish-lacking M1 would never have existed. As far as its WWII historical connection, whose to say if it ever left the United States, or was ever fired in anger and used in Combat?

Dan,

The lack of reddish hue to the stocks and frame grips is actually perfectly natural for 80+ year-old wood that has seen various UV rays and oils from handling. The only glaringly red hue to stocks I have seen are those produced by Devon. Even the so-called "nicest original conditioned Colt Thompson in America" as shown in the Rimfire Video does not sport wood with that color.

rkr, it would be really great if you would scout out this auction of us. Of course a full report would be neccessary afterwards. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif A digital camera would enhance the mission. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif I'll buy ya a "pop" for all your hard work... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Aurthur(aka...Tobor, JBH, etc...)

Devine is GIVING it in both ends to any buyer and seller if that is what he charges (or any other auction house that is raping buyers and seller using a forum that has been made obsolite by the internet).

I don't own a M1 or M1A1. My 1928 with British Proof Marks WAS used in WW2. For your information the 1928's produced by Savage and AO are the MOST PRODUCED THOMPSON SMG in the world. Over a million were made. The murders and thieves of the late 20's and early 30's were the bain of the Thompson. The inventor himself said so. The WW2 guns were used for a great cause, the Colts had a terrible reputation as gangster guns and baby killers.

I don't care for Colt Thompsons, or much else that was made by Colt. The SA pistols are about the only contribution that company ever made to firearms. Just because they produced someone elses designs don't make them King of Firearms.

Colt designed one gun. The rest of thier credit lies within the original designer. J. Browing, J. Thompson, E. Stoner and the list goes on.

You collect what you want and I will collect what I want.

Oh... by the way here is what I think of Colt Thompsons...

John Jr: My predictions are the thompsons will bring:

21 = 20 - 22 K

27 = 15 - 18 K

21ac = 18 - 20 K

m1 = 14 - 16 K

28wh = 10 - 12 K

The above predictions do not include the 15 % buyer's premium. If the 21 sells for a high bid of $20,000.00 the buyer is actually paying $23,000.00. I hope someone follows up the prediction made in this thread with a post of the actual sale prices.

P.S. John Jr. If that is your picture in the above post, then you need a haircut.

Koldt,

I know your new to the board http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif and all, but don't get your hair in a curl http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif when you see a couple of the boys throwing a couple of zingers http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif back and forth. After all, we're kind of like a big family http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif , we'll blow off steam at someone one day http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif and the next day, we'll carry him on our back http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif if need be. Remember, we all enjoy our http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Thompsons. (sometimes we express it differently http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif )

I predict http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif these Thompsons will not go for more then (with http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif fees) =

21= $21,500.00

27= $18,000.00

21ac= $19,500.00

M1= $14,500.00

28WH= $10,000.00

(May seem a little low, but lets wait and see!!)

"We'll need a full report from someone to see how close we are http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif ."

PS - John Jr. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif , is that a brother of Johny Cash http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif ? (sure looks like him http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif !!!)

Oh, yes, just some steam. Still, Nick the Great has stated:

"Yes There Are Rules For This Forum! And They Are....

1. No Flaming

2. No Bitching

3. No Illegal Subject Matter

4. If you want to Flame and Bitch (rules 1. and 2.) That is perfectly fine...

However do NOT do it here! No one wants to read about it! Email the person or use some other means of communication."

Yes, I am the guiltiest (guiltiest?) of all, but let's not get carried away again.

Oh, and is anyone else having to scroll left and right to read the messages after large images get posted? We should try to keep most posted images to less than about 700 pixels wide. That solves the problem for us poor folks with smallish screen widths!

Thanks!!

This will would be a fun time for everyone to chime in and give their guess as to the closing price for each.

Early WWII M1 Thompson Submachine Gun from the Winchester Collection - $8,800

Auto Ordnance U.S. Model 1928 A-1 Submachine Gun (9mm?????) - no idea on this one.

Colt M.1927 Semi Auto Carbine - $12,500

Colt Thompson M. 1921A Submachine Gun - $16,000

Colt Thompson M. 1921 AC Submachine Gun - $15,400

Remember, this should be fun. No need to get too vocal if you don't agree with another's price. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif
