What is this? Dewat?

Sold in a day

I had a chance at this gun months ago and chose against buying it.

I knew it was a good deal.

I assume it was reactivated by Alltech. If it said Russia as the maker and was a c&r I probably would have bought it

C&R Shpagins typically cost twice that much - or more. A live one went for $50K at auction a while back, even a registered dewat fetched over $15K at another auction. Midwest currently has a fairly rough one for sale at $25K. 12K is pretty much market for rewats.

I don't know if the DEWAT you mention is the one I bought, but a C&R ppsh41 in "typical" original condition will sell for $20k+ I bought the one from the FL auction a year or so ago as DEWAT - but the only dewatting was a welded up barrel and a spot weld to the trunnion. a little judicious work on a mill and the barrel popped right out. No real marks of DEWATTING, Easy peasy replacement as I had several on hand. The last C&R ppsh I had was a 1943 reblued, and it was sold for $23k about 8 years ago. At $15k, I felt it was worth the cost, and I wanted a C&R to have in the long term collection... Pretty sure I would not sell it for $23 k now.

Pretty sure I was referring to yours. There aren't that many, if any, out there at that price. Nice score on the "minimum rewat." :D I thought I wanted a Shpagin till I saw what they were going for, now not so much. If I'd seen that one before the lucky buyer did I probably would have jumped. I was just trying to point out to huggytree that he wasn't going to touch a C&R for kind of money that this one went for.

Thinking about it, this one probably wasn't a rewat either, it was more likely a tube gun (well OK they're not exactly a tube but same-same) that would explain the extremely clean condition and the low asking price

They are a relatively simple stamping if you have the press and dies. I don't know if anyone was making them back before '86 but there's at least one current source for postie receivers:

$50 K, wow. I bought one in very good condition with 3 spare parts kits and about 12K rounds of Polish ammo for $20,000 about a year ago and thought I might have overpaid for it. But $50 K -- it better be a museum piece!

Keep in mind that the Russian guns were not "museum quality" when they left the factory. I had a reblued C&R that looked "nice" but not real. The 1943 DEWAT is about par for Russian condition. real C&R ppsh's sell for a lot more than ""newer made" If you got one for $20k with all the stuff you did well. They are a hoot to shoot, trophy wife likes it, and fairly easy to convert to 9mm. Mags are fairly cheap, but must be tuned to the gun. The ammo used to be dirt cheap, and I still have a wood crate of Russian ammo that was pennies a round. it is however not as reliable these days.

Alltech remanufactured and registered MGs prior to May '86. No guarantee that it is C+R if marked by Alltech without knowing date of registration. There are quite a few MGs in the registry that were unregistered after the '68 Amnesty and just papered with name of "originalj" manufacturer or equIvalent in the imp/mfg box by CIIs and passed off as original MGs. FWIW

This is the gun I bought. It transferred as a C&R gun with Russia/Soviet Union/USSR as the manufacturer. I can't tell if it has been reblued. It's a blast to shoot. Now I'm on the hunt for a PPS-43.

I own a nice '44 C&R PPSH (matching) and can't believe the prices. Like you guys I got tons of replacement parts, barrels and mags (to include loaders). I shoot heavy primer 1950's ammo and never have a misfire. Thank goodness I have 10K + rounds stocked up.

Spent a ton of time tuning stick and drum mags to the gun. All work great now. Lately I've searched for trigger groups, really tough to find without buying a whole parts kit.

Was looking for a PPS43 also. Saw one on Autoweapons. It was reblued but the bolt was not matching so I passed.

What did you do to tune the mags to the gun?

Typically you adjust the spring tension in the drums so it has the least amount of pressure on it yet still keep up with the bolt cyclic speed. I bought 20 drums for my gun and went through them and got 15 tuned, the other 5 were wither the springs were too far gone or in one case the spring snapped while trying to tune it. I then serial numbered the drums that work tot he gun with a paint marker like they had been done before.

My gun is a reweld but it a very nice looking and running reweld.
