Tsmg Recoil Spring Tool

Recommended Posts

Does any one have or know where I can get one of the tools used when you take out the recoil spring? It looks like a short cleaning rod with the end machined down so it will fit in the hole on the buffer pilot. GIjive says they where used by the Brits and Canadians in WWII. Thanks, Chris

I've seen a couple of these gizmos. I could make one for a lot less then what they cost. I'll have to work on that one, at work of course. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif How many do we need? 50 or so?

It seems like it would be an easy thing to make from a pistol cleaning rod like the ones you get with S&W revolvers. Just need somone with a lathe to turn the end down. I think steel or brass would be better than aluminum though.

Chris, if you just want one made up, send me a sketch! I figured you wanted a collector piece. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif

Christ, and here I thought a paperclip *WAS* the special tool http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif

I made one out of a cleaning rod. bought a steel .45 pistol rod, cut the end and ground it down carefully. Then cold blued the end. Works well enough. Last gunshow I saw a bunch of brass cleaning rods...maybe I'll make another.

Hmm, hadn't thought about the bluing angle. Maybe I'll blue some half-opened paperclips and put them up for auction on ebay as specially made spring-loading tools. Of course, I'll also have some of the bright, shiny unblued type as well, for those folks that want to match their nickel bolts. Perhaps I could offer them as sets, one blued and one shiny http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Edited by catnipman
