"L" Drum Question

Recommended Posts

After reading Tracie Hill's book several times, I get these numbers:

John's Machine and Stamp Works Co. = 5,000 serial numbered drums.

Stanley works Co. = ? no quantity mentioned.

Worchester Pressed Steel Co. = ? no quantities mentioned.

United Specialties = ? no quantities mentioned.

Crosby Co. = 243,000.

Seymour Products Co. = 190,000.

WPSCO = 50,000.

Can anyone fill in the blanks for me as to quantities manufactured?

Maxim,

I thought the 5,000 figure for the Johns Machine and Stamp Works Co., was for 'C' drums, not 'L' drums?

United Specialities, I read some where, supplied 110,000 units to US Allies through the Lend Lease program.

Maxim,

I stand corrected, I have just been leafing through Gordon Herigstads 'Colt Thompson Submachine Gun: Serial Numbers & Histories', and in volume 2, he confirms that there were initially 5,000 'C', drums and 5,000 'L' Drums produced by John's Machine and Stamp Works Co.

That hardly seems enough for the 15,000 Model of 1921's that came off the Colt assembly lines, so it will be interesting to find out how many were produced by the Stanley works Co. and the Worchester Pressed Steel Co., prior to WW2.

Stay safe
Richard
