copdoc
Early patent date mag has holes on right side. Does anyone know if this is common, a mistake or for leftys😀? I had forgotten I had this one.🤷♀️ David. I'll get you better pics if it helps your reference section. Btw your reference section is outstanding. rpbcps
Nice find, you would have thought that one would have failed the quality controls being carried out by AOC in the 1920's and 30's. Stay safe Richard
Colt Chopper
Hmmmmm, Kind of like a double headed nickle.
Sig
I seemed to remember this coming up before, more than once. Found a thread on this but no related pics. As I remember there has been more recent observations. I think if I had more time I might dig up another couple references to similar magazines. http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3307&hl=%2Bpatent+%2Bdate+%2Bholes+%2Bright+%2Bside I am NOT the expert, and did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn last night. Could the manufacturing process have involved a pre shaped and formed sheet metal magazine body component, that is also pre - drilled for the witness holes, perhaps to have been assembled backward? copdoc
Thanks for responses. I figured there had to be more of them. I missed the thread linked in SIGs post. I would guess the double headed nickle theory too. They made some by mistake, mags worked so AOC sold them, now we noticed. I've had that mag since late 60s and wondered about it. I was at a show before I was old enough to drive. 20 rounders were 50 cents each. The dealer was a gentleman and helped me find one of each variation. John Dillinger
Just checked my phosphate Colt Era Patent date mag and it's a lefty but it was kind of exciting looking for what is a rare anomoly.I may have blued Colt Era Patent date heading my way so that will be getting the left/right witness hole check if it lands.Cheers Copdoc for flagging this up I wasn't aware of it.One to look out for as I've become a XX mag hack
copdoc
Lol. Glad you enjoyed it John. Now like the kids used to say about the Pokeman. You gotta catch them all. I remembered holes on opposite side but until I looked on forum I though they probably made a large run of them. I'm missing several variations and will keep looking. I thought I had another but David said it's been discussed. AOC with U stamp pic included in case anyone wants to see it.
