Petroleum 1
Could also be post war Austrian, so be careful what you buy.The 2 that i bought were of course used and vintage looking but also had the diamond pattern in the leather which is common with the WW2 MP40 slings. Were the post war Austrian slings made like that??

Were the post war Austrian slings made like that?? Reidar (Bergflak) and I had several lengthy discussions about MP40 slings over the SOS weekend. A sling I brought to sell was one of the WWII Austrian manufactured slings. With the absence of the marking he authenticated the sling by the way the buckle was assembled, there are slight differences in the post war type. From the attached photo you can see I have number of original slings, most are identical but there are slight differences in a few. You will also see the post war "Stolla Wien" marking he writes of on some PPSH slings made postwar by this firm. From Reidar's website - http://bergflak.com/mp40.html Postwar use As with the K98k, the MP38. u. 40 saw extensive postwar use with several armies. Many of these armies made their own slings as replacements, and these slings can of course be found all over the place sold as genuine stuff! Read page 2 of my article on the K98k sling for more details. The most often encountered postwar sling for the MP38. u. 40 is the Austrian made "Stolla Wien" sling. Made postwar for the Austrian army by the same manufacturer that made them in WW2 (under the code "cgu"). Almost impossible to tell apart, except for the postwar marking! US1945
I still have several original German slings on hand, for Mg42, k98k and Mp38/40. Most so called German Mp slings are indeed often post war slings and worth $50 as a reproduction+. Original German slings in dark brown used condition cost about $150-175 and up. If this forum has a for sale section, then I'll list next week some original German Mp38/40 slings. Best regards TommyUs1945@hotmail.com

copdoc
I just wondered if anyone can ID this buckle stamp. Its on a dummy gun. Other side of buckle has piece of thin leather covering it. I don't see any marking on leather except the pattern but it's well worn.

huggytree
Are there repro slings with the diamond pattern ? If you have the diamond pattern and the correct number of holes does that make it correct ? I got mine from a well known seller and mp40 collector. I paid $100-150. Thought I got a deal. Now I see people grabbing them for $50 Makes me wonder
