WAAAAY Off Topic (eclipse)

Recommended Posts

So far off topic this isn't even firearms related. (delete if needs be)

For those of you who were not in the path today or have never seen a total eclipse it was an amazing experience! I encourage anyone, if you have the chance in your lifetime, to try to see a total solar eclipse. The pictures don't even do it close to any justice. This was our view from Oregon. Enjoy!

Nice! We only got about 72% magnitude. Still cool though. I used my welding helmet to look. It didn't get too dark. Still interesting.

Andrew

When it went full dark the birds went quiet and back to their trees, the dogs went to their kennels and the chickens to their roost. It was a 360° sunset. Cool and eerie at the same time.

Very cool! I have relatives in Ohio. They drove to Kentucky to see it at total eclipse. They said the same thing. A pretty interesting experience. Except they are still driving home as the traffic is pretty bad!

Bummer. I only had to go about 10 miles to my in-law's house to be in the path.

But there was no "Dark Side of the Moon" ... (Pink Floyd)....

And... most folks now-a-days spend all their lives in the dark anyway ... waiting for lib-tards to enlighten them... I am one; because, I am stroking a year's salary to get into a one year BATFE time out box...

hope we all find our way home.

Here in NRV, Va. It was cloudy but we got a chance to see it using welding goggles. It was worth seeing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought two #14 IR weld lenses and used my lathe to make mounts to hold them on the front of my binoculars. With those I can actually see the sunspots on the surface! It was a site to see.

Drove three hours to Clarksville, TN, well worth the short trip. No large crowds to speak of, traffic seemed like any other Monday.

Clarksville was basically on the center line of the track, weather was great.

Was absolutely incredible. Went to our neighbors house just up the road. They have a deck that has a great view from horizon to horizon.

We got 2 minutes and 30 seconds of totality. The silence when the sun went dark , the 360 degree sunset effect -wow-seeing the corona and prominences. Awesome. I can't wait for 2024 !

Agreed 100%

We had a wide horizon view as well. Absolutely stunning! We also had about a 15 to 20 degree drop in temperature as the light went away. Eerie but cool at the same time.

Where I was we saw almost 90% coverage and I watched it on and off with binoculars with #12 filters taped on the front. I could see the sunspots with 7 power. I shared the view with a bunch of people. Most of them were quite happy to see it and had not seen one before. I took out my light meter and the ambient light fell from EV19 to EV16 at maximum so that should mean we got 1/8 of the full light at our maximum. It was noticeably darker but didn't seem all that dark. It looked almost like when day is shot for night in movies. I would like to experience the totality sometime.
