BAR Charging Handle

Recommended Posts

A Pal of mine & I are trying to figure out, how the charging handle was distributed through out the 18 BARS. Some are the bigger handles others the smaller version. I'm talking in the 1930s. Colt Monitors included.

Not just stabbing here as I got historical pictures ( Clyde Barrow's Winchester ) showing the different versions-

Any clues anybody ?

Thanks,

All Military BARs (M1918 and M1918a2) have the same size small charging handle. Some early WWI Winchesters had cross checking, all others had straight serrations running up and down.

All Commercial Colts had the larger charging handle. These were all checkered. If it has a C and an Arrow stamped it was made by Colt, if it has a crown stamped it was made by Carl Gustaf in Sweden (but otherwise identical to a Colt Commercial charging handle)

The one Clyde Barrow had, recovered, had the small charging handle, a Winchester . Also an original MR & the same for a Colt, had the same.

Just wondered.

Yes both checkered.
