rpbcps
With David's permission, I am listing a number of pamphlets for sale, which I bought while carrying out research for the post: http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21771After reviewing the editions etc. I had recently I noted I had bought more than one of each edition, so have decided to sell those surplus to my collections needs. If you require more photos just PM me and I’ll sort some out for you and all prices include shipping, if paid via Paypal and buyer pays the costs, PM me for explanation. Small Arms Training Pamphlet Vol. 1 No. 21 The Thompson Submachine gun 1940 Original hard to find first edition pamphlet, printed in July 1940, coincided with the same period of the first 'cash & carry' purchase of the TSMG by the British. Well used but with a firm spine and no loose pages. It has a vertical centre fold; edge nicks, creasing, dog-earing and marking to the covers; heavy dog-earing, creasing and foxing throughout. It contains four pages of photos, (first photo showing a 1921 era ‘Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Mfg Co.’ receiver markings on the weapon displayed), wrapped around instructions pages, 10 pages in total. $60 SOLD Small Arms Training Pamphlet Vol. 1 No. 21 The Thompson Machine Carbine 1942, 12 pages in this edtion which has line drawings, rather than photos, throughout. The line drawings feature a Model of 1928A, without the Cutts compensator. Two copies available, both dated June 42 and both in good clean condtion, with firm spine and no loose pages $45 each Small Arms Training Pamphlet Vol. 1 No. 21 The Machine Carbine 1944 28 pages covers information and photos for both the Sten and Thompson submachine guns. Two copies available, both dated April 1944 and the first picture in the pamphlet shows a Thompson without the Cutts compensator. Pamphlets are in a nice clean condition, but staples have rust, as found on most pamphlets from this period from my experience. Otherwise good condition, both have firm spines, one with No loose pages and second with four centre pages loose. Priced accordingly at $45 and $40 respectively. The Thompson Submachine Gun – Mechanism Made Easy Gale & Polden. First edition with 14 picture pages. A few creases on front cover and bottom edge of spine is parting up to staple, but nice and firm and no loose pages with previous owners name in pen on the front cover. One of the photos in the book features a Colt Era Thompson, serial No. 3386. $45. Again bought while carrying out research for the post:http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?s=d873a203c5e3738d2ae8334801d60729&showtopic=21771 and not Thompson related but may be of interest, Gale & Polden, Lewis Gun mechanism made easy old WW2 era Lewis gun pamphlet, 22 pages with three pages of pull outs with many pictures, an interesting read. Pamphlet has some age, as would be expected, but overall nice item. $45 SOLD Also discovered, I have more than one of the following, trouble with working away from home so much, and ordering when away without checking what I already have in the collection.Scientific American TSMG Article Oct 16 1920, nice historical piece, two pages from the Scientific American magazine with the early article. $40 1940 Edition AOC Model 1928 Handbook with the earlier New York AddressThis one is in good (minus) condition, with stains on front cover and the bottom of the pages fading as it goes through the handbook, and browning from age, but nice and firm and no loose pages. $50 Stay safeRichard Edited December 8, 2019 by rpbcps
CaribRadDoc
I just returned from a family vacation in England. And it quickly devolved from a Castle finding tour to a full on Antique Store rummaging, how many can we find vacation. I want to thank Richard for posting the above pamphlets, as I would never have known of their existence. I was able to find one the pamphlets on my tour ( Small Arms training Pamphlet from 1944), in a little town called Horncastle, near the city of Lincoln. I felt as if I had struck gold! My wife was less impressed.... So thanks again Richard! My oldest son, purchased a book titled "Britain's Modern Army Illustrated" which has 2 pages referencing the Thompson. Unfortunately, we can not find a publish date anywhere, in it. I am sure it is almost certainly "pre-Sten", since there is no mention of it in the book. I found 2 sentences interesting: "Finally in the platoon there is one sub-machine gun. At present this is the American Thompson gun at (pounds) 45 apiece!" Richard, have you come across this book before? Specifically the publish date? Any help is appreciated. And to not violate the "unwritten rule" of not posting pics of purchases, here is a picture of the Small Arms manual-1944, that had me dancing in an antique store, setting back the image of Americans for at least a few years. Thanks, Andy
dalbert
Andy, Great find on the Modern Army book with TSMG content. I don't recall seeing those illustrations previously. Also, congratulations on finding an SAT-21 pamphlet in an antique store in England. Thanks for posting! As I said before, I'd like to know who has the authority to decide what is and isn't "politically correct", but that is another story. Congratulations on finding the SAT 21 and also on your sons find, Britain's Modern Army Illustrated, I have not seen that one before, but I will be looking out for it now. I know Horncastle and Lincoln very well; and the SAT 21 and 'Britain's Modern Army Illustrated' are nice finds. Most wives' must be the same, my wife would not be impressed too! I hope you all enjoyed your vacation in the UK. Stay safe Richard
