inherited 4 old shotguns today--looking for values

Recommended Posts

Winchester 1912 - 30" barrel early serial #, made in 1914...lots of finish loss, but finish still decent..not rusted or pitted up(much)

Browning a5 Magnum w/ poly choke...i believe 1965 production....color is a silvery/blue- made in belgium---im curious if its older than i think

Remington Model 11 (a5) near mint condition- high production #, assumed 1947 (last year made)

Winchester 1911sl widow maker---this one i dont need a value as im giving it to my brother--i know value is low, but it looks like brand new (1911-1935 production 80,000 made)

i am going to sell the Winchester 1912 and am curious if 1914 adds much value vs condition....im thinking of asking $200

ive seen values on the browning for $650,but mine is in nicer shape and i dont see my exact model in past sales...the poly choke even has extra full and slug..its a 3" shell gun

Remington looks like brand new....shocked how old it is as id guess 1970;s production for its condition and look....800,000 serial# range, poly choke.....i gave this gun to my son for trap.....value? i see only $200-250 on these....id think it would be worth way more

all of these guns were my grand fathers...born approx 1905....died 20 years ago.....i always wanted his A5 and today is the day.... my dad has 1 more coming a A5 light.....hoping it has a poly choke,so my daughter can use it for trap..

any opinions appreciated....like i said im mainly concerned about the 1912 value as im hoping it could be special being such an early production

I've seen early ones go anywhere from $200 to 600 in the last year in the typical "used" condition. I passed one last month for 250 cause it had a bubba'd stock attached to it, BUT go figure I get a good+ condition stock last week for $15 with the bolt/hardware.

on the browning A5 , I'd say closer to $800 .

remington 11 - $200-450, with all the clones of them made about the same time it's killed any real value unless you had one of their super fancy versions.

People often screw this one up taking it apart to clean it then putting it back together incorrectly.

Looking at prices on g-broker anymore a lot of people are just pissing in the wind hoping their outrageous made up prices stick.

my winchester model 1912 has 2 serial #'s and ive been told its a takedown version....i have it on armslist for $300..the stock is refinished, 29" full barrel 90% condition, receiver is probably 30-40% finish condition...

any info on the takedown version? someone is asking me specifics about it...at first i got excited thinking it may be a war gun, but doesnt appear so

funny story on this gun...my grandfather found it at the docks after duck hunting...a freebee....

as for the Browning and Remington A5's---they both have polychokes....they are done professionally and look like they were factory(but i know arent)..how much does this poly choke effect value?...i believe these guns are 32" barrels....with the poly choke i dont think they will even fit in my safe....might have to buy a new safe just for my shot guns.....still have a Browning light weight a5 coming too.....

my Browning i found out is from 1958...1st year they made the magnum.....

both a5's look brand new...looking at them you'd guess they were made in 2015....my sons 1947 remington is nearly flawless......sad its not worth more...but after dissembling both i can see how much nicer the browning is......they did not skimp on anything...

i remember looking at my grandfathers shot gun case and loving those engraved A5's....now 1 is mine, 1 is my sons....a pretty cool day

Why sell it? Hang it over the mantel with a photo of your Grandad. When you have great grandkids they'll be very glad there is a around 175 to 200 year old family hierloom with documentation. Put some old shell boxes with it, an old canvas loop belt, old knife and leave it alone. Keep the legacy going.

Your Model 1912 is definitely a take-down (no solid frame Model 1912 or Model 12 were made). Winchester did bring out a solid frame shotgun (called the Model 25) around 1950 which basically had the same action). What specifics were you asked about the Model 1912?

yep, I'd hold on to the model 12 .

ive got too many guns...i will never shoot it....its probably functional but seems loose..

i have my Browning a5 from my grandfather...probably his pride and job

my son has his Remington A5....he died 13 years before my son was born+

im TRYING to pry a Browning A5 light out of my dads hands for my daughter...now seeing me give my son a gun she wants one for trap shooting.....so ive now offered my dad what id put into a cheap pump gun to try to get my Dad to give it up....he was going to at 8am and by noon he wanted to keep it......

hopefully we will have all (3) of his A5's in my family.....

im giving the Winchester 1911sl to my brother...if i wanted a wall hanger that would be the gun...very different...

the 1914? its ugly, my grand father just found it...he may have never even shot it.......it will never be used by me....we dont hang guns on the walls(little kids around the house).....wife wouldnt like it either.......no purpose so let someone else enjoy it who collects winchesters...from 1914 it may be special to someone else

when i shoot my A5 i will always think of my grandfather...i have one of his duck decoys also, but thats it....a gun and a decoy.....

i lowered my price to $225 on the 1914 as per someone elses evaluation including the refinished stock (its ugly)....

the 1914 is not a high style gun, its not in good shape...its just Fugly

i appreciate the advice on it though!!!!...

got someone coming to get it...at $225 i guess thats the ''sell it today'' price

shocked how ugly it is that its worth more than $75....but seeing its 103 years old and still locks up really good its pretty darn cool

now i can offer my Dad a bit more for the A5 light
