Searched all posts before asking but did not see what I am looking for. New AO 1927A1. Is the 30 round stick mag supposed to be loose when latched into the receiver? I can wiggle the mag both fore and aft and side to side. It won't fall out but sure looks odd to me. The Thompson is new to me ... used to Garands and ARs. I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes by.

It should lock up tight. If the mag is loose it may have an oversize hole for the mag catch. Either the mag or the latch needs to be modified to account for the semi auto receiver's .1" reduction in height to prevent the use of a full auto bolt. The preferred mod is to alter the catch to accomodate unaltered GI mags.

If the mag should lock up tight, that is no movement when locked into the rifle this might be part of the failure to feed problems I have been having. This is a brand new AO 1927 and apparently a brand new stick mag. I'm going to have to dig into this a little deeper. Next time I go to the range I'm going to try holding the mag rather that the foregrip to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the reply.

Most FTF problems with the semi auto weapons are rooted in the magazine ... Thompson's are extremely finicky about the magazines and I have found that very few of the mags drilled out for the semi auto mag catch are drilled properly. Most altered holes cause the magazine to sit too low in the mag well ... The best remedy is to buy unaltered mags and have them fit to your personal weapon ... Or purchase a GI magazine catch. The magazine should fit tightly into the slot and there should be no detectable movement.

Work also needs to be done on most feed ramps ... From the factory most Kahr's have a feed ramp about as smooth as pumice. That 45 ACP round in your weapon has to travel a long way from it's seat in the magazine to the chamber ... It doesn't take much to make it detour.

Kahr probably could make a weapon that functions flawlessly out of the box ... But then these semi auto carbines would be in the price range of an OOW 1918 BAR ... It's a beast, but it can be tamed with some work.
