Mag Catch Replacement with USGI

Recommended Posts

I have been seeing different versions of what you have to do to replace the Kahr Arms mag catch with a USGI catch. Some say a total take down of the lower is needed but some say you can just remove the mag catch and carefully unwind the spring. What approach would be best? I want to use USGI mags.

Thanks John C.

I would think that you should be able to just push the pivot plate through just enough to clear the stop nub above the magazine catch. Then you should be able to turn the mag catch and pull it carefully out.

I may be misreading or misunderstanding here. But that never seems to stop me anymore.

If I'm not mistaken, just swapping in a GI catch alone will not allow you to use GI mags. The "nub" on the catch still has to be modified to make up for the 0.1" difference between the heights of the Kahr receiver and a "real" Thompson receiver.

Good luck with your project.
