I said sure bring it in. To my amazement he brings in 10 boxes of Hydroshok, and three boxes of Black Talons. Thats 200 Federal Hydroshoks, and 60 bee-ootiful black talons. He wants $40 bucks for the lot, which I silently hand over, my eyes wide at finding such beautiful cartridges in the State of California. They are so pretty, I don't want to shoot 'em.... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif If I remember correctly, I saw a box of 20 Hydroshoks go on Gunbroker several months ago for $50, and I got 10 boxes! I might go out tommorow and see what 20 of 'em will do to gallon milk jugs full of water, but some of these are getting set aside for close encounters. I already swapped out the home defense 1911. They look really neat in my drum by the way, I'd show you guys a picture-but I still haven't figured out how you post pictures here. Black Tallons are colector items, sorry to say. They shot real good in my 1911 and I tried one in my milk jug bullet tester. Looked just like the old adds showed. The only reason I bought these was because they were to good to pass up. I also live in Kalifornia, where I am fairly certain these are for Law Enforcement only, and thus harder to procure than in normal sane States who don't have idiot socialists in charge of them. I've actually done a few experiments with my hand cast bullets, my metal lathe, and some patience that resulted in some pretty good water jug destroying hollow points, but the process takes too long to be practical. My best ones were made from 200 grain SWC's to around 190 grain hollow points. 7 grains of Unique gave 'em some hot velocity out of the 16" barrel with no leading or accuracy problems. I tried 231, but those loads leaded the barrel. I think the faster and hotter burning 231 makes great 1911 rounds, but thus far the old reliable dirty Unique has given me the best results with the Thompson. Tman Posted December 10, 2003 Report Share Posted December 10, 2003 I did some searching on the web (google) and found some pics on the Winchester site that showed recovered bullets and they expand exactly like the old stuff.
