Hi, I have a BM59 Mark 1 full auto coming & was looking for a bayonet to complete it. Also please let me know about spare parts if anybody has them (I am familiar with Reese's). I already have 13 mags so I don't need any unless they're a bargain. Thanks & hope to hear from ya'all!

Al Nukem:

What style bayonet lug does your rifle have - carbine or Garand? What-A-Country has BM59 bayos for BM59's with Garand style lugs. If your rifle has a carbine style bayo lug it will be somewhat more difficult to find.

Please post a pic of your rifle when you can.

WOW 13 mags http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif, do you mind if I ask how you got so many? I have a full auto BM59 too and would love to get a few more mags but I found that the ones Reese sells dont have the crome follower and wont hold the bolt on my rifle open on the last round.

I just counted up my magazines, looks like I have 17 of the chrome follower versions and two of the Reese mags coming in (and mine is semi-auto!). Can never have enough mags for special occasions. I just sold several BM59 mags at auction for between $45.00 and $75.00, I was up to 24 mags, guess the price spread says how auctions go. I wouldn't have done it if I'd known the Reese mags don't have the chrome followers, mine all do. I was figuring I could replace them from Reese if I had to.

I had some problems with my chrome follower mags not holding the bolt open on the last shot. I "complained" to Reese, and they were good enough to send me new springs, no charge. If you are having bolt-hold-open problems, see what Reese will do for you.

I really hesitate to tell you this next secret. It's how I ended up with so many BM59 mags. The only reason I'm doing it is I want this board to be a good site, with useful information. Here is the info, I might delete it if I have to.

Much of what you will "see" on internet auctions depends on the search words you are using on the auction site. For example, if you are looking for Ruger 10/22 stuff, you will see a bunch of stuff listed as "10/22". But if you do a search for 10-22 (another way to describe the item) you will probably find a lot of stuff you didn't see using 10/22. Then, if you try 10 22, you will see even different stuff, all related to the Ruger 10/22. If you want to get really off the wall, try "Rugar" and see what pops up.

Same is true of the M1 Garand. It may be described as M-1 Garand by buyers. Different things will pop up, depending on if you look for M1 or M-1 using the search engine. If you want to see really obscure listings, try substituting "Garand" with "Grand". Some people actually describe it like that.

No different with the BM59. Looking for BM59 stuff? Don't forget to use "BM-59" and "BM 59" as well as "BM59". It's also surprising how many people spell it "Baretta" instead of "Beretta".

The key here is the search engine will only spot what you specify when doing a search, and people list items different ways. If they list the item as a "Barretta BM-59" and you are searching for "Beretta BM59", you will never see all you are looking for.

Of couse, this is true when advertising items also. Those familiar with listing items on auctions will list it using several terms, and even misspell to make sure everyone sees their item. If you have a 10/22 Ramline magazine for sale, you want to include "10-22", "10 22", 10-22, "Ram Line", "Ram-Line", and "Ramline" in your descripition. That way, it will appear on several more home computers when people do searches.

I reserve the right to delete this post if it looks like people are sniping me at acution sites. If I didn't think 19 magazines wouldn't personally hold me through any SHTF situations, I wouldn't be telling you this. Still, I wouldn't mind another half dozen mags......

The mag body and baseplate are marked "BR BM 59" and has a water drain hole. The mag I got from Reese didn't have a drain hole. I'm sure it was just an older mag and thats probably why it didn't lock the bolt back maybe it had a weak spring.

Breda is another Italian firearms manufacturer (firearms amoung other things), well know for shotguns in particular, I believe, but made and makes all sorts of stuff. Including some noteworthy full auto military stuff. They were a subcontractor on BM59 parts. It's not uncommon to see Breda parts on a Beretta BM59, I believe especially barrels and magazines. At least I've heard of Breda barrels on Nigerian BM59's. It's not that the Breda parts are any "better", just different.

I think according to Bob Reese there were several subcontractors scattered across Italy for the BM59, just Beretta "out-sourcing" to other shops. Not really much different than the way things are done in the USA today. I have been in smaller shops and seen Sig and Beretta handgun frames being processed, as well as M16 mags, triggers, hammers, and such. These were out just for special processes, such as chemical coatings and heat treat.

Breda made M 1 Garands in the early 50's. They also made M 1 Garand receivers for Beretta. The receivers are marked under the wood line. Check your parts on your BM59/62 any marked BR were made by Breda. Beretta marked their parts P.B.

Al, on the bayonets, check on ebay and other auction sites regularly, I have seen two there over the past year, both were rather expensive. They seem to run between $100 and $200 when they come up. Springfield Armory, Inc. offered some when they were selling their BM59's, I don't think Reese has anymore. I bought mine from a guy that use to work for Springfield Armory, he said he paid $100 for it and he worked there! I bought the one he had for $150.
