Irish Lewis Guns

Recommended Posts

Well, this explains a few things, but still leaves more questions. My Lewis has a Savage-made receiver (with Canadian proof mark) combined with a Brit parts set bearing replacement serial number A-22. It's a live gun registered under the original SN on the receiver, which is not lined out.

I have never done a FOIA request to NFA Branch, but I think I will on this Lewis.

Does your Savage made Canadian issue reciver have a small crown with the number 24 stampted into the metal? This is a Canadian inspection mark.

Always good to get more "good" info. I have A95. I have had several of them over the years, will have to go research the other SNs. Just had it out the other day and ran 3 drums through it. Fun old gun to shoot. Would love to find a Vickers tripod adapter.....

Here's something I came up with that really changes shooting the Lewis. Removing the rear sight assembly from the Body Cover reveals a male dovetail, so I milled an aluminum block to fit and mounted an AR-15 rail on top. Note that there is no alteration to ANY original parts, would I do such a silly thing? I have since acquired a NOS Body Cover so I can just swap them out. It’s insane how fast she gets on target and how accurate. Der Kaiser has filed a complaint with the Hague Convention!

If necessary, I can also mount the starlight or thermal sight, but I’ll have to take them off the rail to change pans. Now that would make sausage out of some feral hogs.

Dink,

If this video works, I start out targeting & obliterating clay pigeons at 125 yards with short bursts. Note how close together the bursts are, that’s how fast she was on the next target. Then I walked fire down the 2-liter water bottles that were trying to attack our position.

2-liter-water-bottle-lives-don’t-matter!

I assume all the Irish Lewis guns are C&R classified since they are the original receivers. I know my BATF paperwork lists both the importer (International Armament Corp) as well as Birmingham Small Arms but nothing specifically that states C&R but there is no box for that either. The current BATF C&R list as of 2018 has both British and American made Lewis Guns as C&R approved.

Thanks...

Since I do not know of any Lewis guns that were manufactured after 1969, all of them should be C&R as they are over 50 Years old. It's possible that someone re-welded or scratch-made a receiver between 1969 and 1986. But I have not heard of one.
