House Bill 5717 is another attempt of the left to play on the fears of its loony base in hopes to disarm Americans and violate the 2nd amendment. There really needs to be a bill passed that says once a bill fails, it and one even similar cannot be brought up ever again. Stop wasting the tax payers money.

Careful what you wish for.

Exactly, for instance a bill in introduced to remove suppressors and SBR's from the NFA list and have them treated like a hand gun purchase. The bill fails because of the make up on the congress at that particular time. That bill would never be able to be considered again even if changes in the legislature created a favorable climate for such legislation in the future. Same with a new Amnesty Registration bill etc.

There has been no lack of legislators sponsoring an amnesty (Veteran's Heritage Firearms Act, not a general amnesty) or a removal of suppressors, just that it's for show and fund raising. Neither party we are allowed to vote for will actually pass it. At least one year (2012 IIRC) there were companion amnesty bills in both house and senate.

One specific example that is fairly significant but largely taken for granted now was the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act which was passed in 2005. It failed in 2004 after McCain and Feinstein poison pilled it with a renewal of the AWB. If not for that, the anti-constitution crowd would still be bankrupting manufacturers and dealers via the courts. I hear anti-gun politicians mention it far more than gun owners, so it's doing something positive.

Another issue which normal people who work for a living cannot easily imagine is the endless debates that would then go on about what "similar" means. Change one word? One sentence? Who decides? More frivolous suits in the courts?
