Bernie
I am thinking about building a 1928 parts kit into a dummy gun, probably on a Phily Ord receiver. I see they have an option to add original type engraving for $50. How's it look? I also see T&S dose engraving for $170. I don't have the time or money to try to get a Doug Richardson Receiver, I am guessing the Phily ord is the next best? and what should I do about engraving? Thanks Bernie
kilroyjones
You might want to see about Tom Sawyer Mfg. (http://www.tomsawyermfg.com/) He does good job of engraving and is reasonable on pricing.
Lancer
They don't show any kind of Thompson receivers but it looks like they do very nice work. http://www.tomsawyermfg.com/
Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
Here's a sample of Phil Ord. and T&S's engraving. Phil Ord. did the M1 and T&S did the M1A1. T&S also includee the bullet logo and US Property whereas Phil. Ord did not. The address done by Phil Ord was very light but then again on my torch cut M1 part it is as well, maybe they were going for realism. When Sam at T&S did the M1A1 for me about 2 years ago he said he had lost his capability to do 28 engravings but that may have changed. I quickly chalked both receivers for the pics http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/wje2204/rightsideengravingm1a1.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/wje2204/Leftsidem1a1engraving.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/wje2204/rightsideengraving.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/wje2204/Leftsideengravingm1.jpg
Bernie
Thanks guys, question #2. I know Doug Richardson is THE BEST, and I have always been under the assumption that Phily Ord has been the next best, is this about right? In the last few days I have noticed there are a few diffrent options (steel, aluminum, different manufactures, ect). I really want a machined Steel dummy receiver, what other options are there?
