M60 Belt Carriers

Recommended Posts

So what is the typical M-60 owner here using to mount 100-round belts on their guns? The cardboard and fabric GI bandoleers don't seem that durable or easy to come buy. Anyone using anything else?

Sixty Gunner,

Welcome to the boards!

I have not seen anyone shooting an M-60 with any kind of 100-round belt mount. When I've shot one, it was out of an ammo can on the ground, from loose belts, or belts placed into the curved ammo holder on an M-60 mount/shield combo. The fabric bandoliers are only useful for carrying the 100-round belt, but would not work well to feed the weapon directly, in my opinion. However, I have never tried it, but would think the bandolier would get caught up in the cartridges feeding out of it pretty quickly if attempted.

SG,

Another easy, and handy modification for that pouch is to use the cardboard box the belt comes in, inside the POS cloth bandoleer. Take some rigger's tape, and tape one complete turn from top to bottom, reinforcing the box to keep it from popping open/falling apart. If you feel the urge, and have the tape, another complete turn won't hurt any. On the final pass, leave about a 3-4 inch "loop" on the top, and continue the rest of the turn back to the base of the loop. Since loop will have adhesive exposed, fold the tape onto itself, adhesive to adhesive, thereby creating a little "handle" for the ammo box. Tear off the perforated opening on the top of the box (though unless you get your hands on factory packed link, it is likely already torn off), exposing the 2" on the top right, allowing the lead end of the belt to be exposed. This will allow you to pre-stage your belts, and not have to S-Fold them into the carrier on the side of the gun every time. It also protects the belt from twisting, dirt, mud, grime, or otherwise getting fouled. And it does help with smoother feeding of the pig.

You do the prep work at home at your leisure, then just haul boxes to the range. Pop the velcro strap on the top of the carrier, drop the box in, and stuff/slap your belt into the receiver. When that belt runs dry, or low....pop the velcro strap, grab the handle, pull the old box out, drop the new box in. You can hand link to the tail of the existing belt, or if empty, stuff/slap the belt back into the gun, and Charlie Mike.

These little makeshift handles work great for using an LBE. Grab the handle, and out comes the box, ammo prepped, and ready to roll. Makes re-loading very fast, and very efficient.
