Most specilically, if one was to cut an m1a1 to accept a drum mag, would any of the lower parts need to be swapped or converted? PK. Posted October 4, 2003 Report Share Posted October 4, 2003 The official M1A1 magazine catch is narrower in the area that was used to secure the drum in the 21/28 models, otherwise it is the same. As the earlier part was quite functional in all models and supplies were more than sufficient it would seem, I have noted only a relatively small percentage of the thinner catches.
