hatrick
So I went to my local police department today and got 2 fingerprint cards to submit with my a Form 4. Is it going to be a problem with the ATF that they are Massachusetts State Police fingerprint cards and not official FD-258 cards? They look almost identical and have basically the same info. The officer said they are the same but I certainly don’t want to risk my Form 4 getting rejected or delayed.Has anyone else in Massachusetts filed aForm 4 with the Mass fingerprint cards? Thanks
Frank Iannamico
The FD-258 cards are correct BUT If you look in the ORI (origin) block, the correct ATF cards are stamped; WVATF0800- ATF-NATL TRA CTR- MARTINSBURG , WV This tells the FBI where the cards came from and where to return the information. I just had a customer submit fingerprint cards from the local PD, I told him it might be a problem, but his transfer was approved. HOWEVER, he had also had a previous recent transfer and sent a copy of it along with the form 4s. OR Maybe ATF is checking prints themselves now?
hatrick
Thanks for the info.... I ordered some of the correct ART addressed FD-258 cards and went back to my local PD but sadly they can't print on them and have the data show up in the correct fields and boxes. I was hoping they had multiple fingerprint form templates on their computer but they seemed pretty lacking in how to do anything but the standard state fingerprint form. I ended up getting an ink pad and rolling my own prints and they came out pretty good in my opinion but I'm wondering if I should also send the state print cards as well just in case. Or will the ATF get bent out of shape that I sent both print cards? Thanks
inertord
Simple call to the BATFE NFA Branch would be your best bet: (304) 616-4500
The Lone Ranger
I recently transferred a silencer to a co-worker. When he went to get printed, he and the guy doing the prints discussed the matter and determined that despite the instructions, a different print card would be more appropriate for the purpose (it was another FBI produced card, just a different # designation and color).... sent back. It might depend on who opens the envelope. Edited November 7, 2020 by The Lone Ranger
83Baron
FWIW, I have been using my local PD fingerprint cards (they wont use the ATF ones anymore either) for 5 plus transfers now and it has never been an issue.
RoscoeTurner
Local SO here has a fingerprint scanner, will print out on ATF cards if you supply them. Simple process other than hoping there isn't a riot or jail break while you are in that area of the county jail.
