MP40 Magazine Loader

Recommended Posts

So, the issue MP40 loading tool and reproductions are usable, but not very good. I modified a Vigneron loader to better fit the MP40 mag and it's a lot better than the WW2 German tool. But it's still not great.

Is there a loading tool that has the leverage of the Vigneron tool but isn't as finicky? I'm thinking a STEn box or spoon loader would be an improvement if they can be made to fit properly. Anyone tried those or have a better suggestion?

OK. I bought the UP LULA and loaded a couple of mags with it. It is a clever design that will work with almost any single feed pistol magazine. The problem is still one of having to force each round down against the stiff magazine spring. In that respect, the STEn spoon loader is about the best magazine loader ever designed for a singe-feed submachine gun magazine as it clips securely on the magazine and uses the leverage of the spoon the force the cartridges down.

I'll stick with my modified Vigneron loader for MP40 mags as it also uses leverage to avoid having to use brute force to push down the cartridge stack.

Thanks.

Looks very good to me. I think Haenel had the best quality of all the makers of MP40s. Yours also has the correct Waffenampt 37 which is Haenel. They are pretty tough to find. I have a ghn 40 coded one that I keep with my collector MP40 and then I am lucky to have a pair of loaders for my shooter MP40. One is marked kur 43 so Steyr coded and the other is coded ayf 40 so coded to Erma.

I dont recall what i paid for mine Im not even sure if its a repro or vintage.

Original Steyr made MP-40 mag loaders (and mags) are of very high, consistent quality. Steyr's maker code changed from 98E to kur in early 1942.

Other makers suffered from spotty quality as the war progressed. Some bte marked mags and loaders are junk, not even usable. Loaders sometimes won't fit on mags, and mags won't fit in guns.
