michaelkih
I know the drum magazines were never meant to match the guns, and only 5000 C drums were even made when 15,000 guns were made, but does anyone know how many guns have been matched up with their matching C drum or part of C drum over the years? Just curious. Thank you!
giantpanda4
I know of one... not mine though!
Sandman1957
Gordon's last book may give some insight. He lists some numbered C-Drums. Once you have those numbers they may be a comment if they are with the TSMG. Second, see if those numbered guns exist. Hopefully others will respond. Good luck. My guess is a dozen or so at best. buzz
why did colt number the drum to the gun? just another one of those many extra-cost thompson flourishes?
michaelkih
Buzz, to match the halves back together after they sent them off to be finished.
Bridgeport28A1
why did colt number the drum to the gun? just another one of those many extra-cost thompson flourishes? The L and C drum front cover and back were numbered to keep them together during assembly. The Colt era L drum numbers and C drum numbers did not correspond to a 1921 Thompson. Sandman1957
BUT, WHEN you HAVE one that does match, its worth an extra good scotch or two! Same for the shoulder stock end plate. 3148 has a front plate that matches, the body does not match. Still on the hunt. If anyone has a body numbered 3148, or a front plate numbered 3334 let me know. We can do a great trade!
TD.
The real prize is when a Colt is matched up with both the same numbered L and C drum. Yes, those combinations do exist in the collector world.
Sandman1957
Any idea what the highest number on each was, ie, at what number did they stop stamping the L-Drums and C-Drums. Not near any of my references for a week or more.

ron_brock
If no one has one for sale I'm still looking. Any leads on where you could find one. Appreciate it.You may want to start a separate thread on this to get better visibility. Persistence will pay off. Drums come up for sale just not as many as WWII or later drums.
