Vettom
the S/N 135103 on the receiver it looks like some issues going on around the model stamping? I am curious as to what would have caused this? I read the description but don't get that. thanks in advance https://auctions.morphyauctions.com/_N__AUTO_ORDNANCE_BRIDGEPORT_1928_THOMPSON_SPECIAL-LOT475606.aspx Edited October 17, 2019 by Vettom

I read the description but don't get that. thanks in advance https://auctions.morphyauctions.com/_N__AUTO_ORDNANCE_BRIDGEPORT_1928_THOMPSON_SPECIAL-LOT475606.aspxVettom, It is one of the Post WWII Maguire Industries Guns that had the "US" designation and the "1" in "A1" removed and over stamped with a "C". These guns were mostly spare parts guns and end of contract overruns that were sold to law enforcement agencies in the late 1940's and early 1950's. They are invariably Auto-Ordnance made guns and not leftover Savage 1928A1's. Plenty of prior posts over the years on these guns going back several years. Use the search function and you should be able to find several prior posts on these variations. This topic comes up every few years when there is an influx of new members. Frank Iannamico
What Chuck posted above is correct, most I have seen were done a little neater and refinished or touched up. The lighting they use for the photos may have made it look worse than it is. Strobe lights can bring out a lot that you cannot see with the naked eye. There were several of the "1928AC" guns for sale at TATA last August the had the US and A1 very neatly milled out. I hadn't seen those done like that before, most were ground out like those at Morphy's
Ron Mills
I looked at one that IIRC is at the Delaware State Police Museum in Dover, and the "AC" indent was ground in much further than I had seen on others. Probably due to speed of operation (need to get the gun finished and out the door)? Could be. I'll try to dig up the pics. Thanks for posting.
