You'll enjoy Frank's excellent article in the latest 'Small Arms Review' magazine concerning the differing cyclic rates of the M1 vs. M1A1 TSMG bolts. In it, he backs up his solid research using original source materiels with modern comparison testing.

This article is especially timely for me, as I have been trying to decide whether to go with the M1 or M1A1 configuration on my newly-purchased West Hurley M1, on which PK has kindly offered to work his magic (photo shoot schedule allowing, of course!).

My M1928A1 cycles at a very constant 750 rounds per minute (using original WWII GI ammo) and will empty a XXX mag in 2 1/2 seconds. In reading the article, it looks as if the WH with an M1 bolt will be about the same, and I like the additional safety factor of not having the possibility of the firing pin contacting the primer until the bolt is almost fully closed.

Looks like the decision is made in favor of the M1 bolt. Take care, Guys!

It was new in the box). When I had the M1A1 bolt in the gun, I actually had a round go off before the bolt was fully closed. Stick with the M1 bolt for safety reasons!
