huggytree
trying to figure out what this one is....ive emailed with Alex from the MP40 registry about it...he has no idea it has no sanding marks and appears original finish, slab sides....so i dont think its a Vig. no german markings, no 32 hole and the bottom isnt mp40 anyone know? note the 1/2 circle cut out at the top--my mp40 mags dont have thisalso when i heft it next to a 1940 slab slide mp40 mag its much lighter Edited February 13, 2019 by huggytree

Haenelistklasse
Ok, I will take a guess. I am going to say that it is a very early MP38 mag. I think the number 3 is some kind of inspector's "initial". I own a few MP41 mags that also have a small number near the bottom of the mag but closer to the bottom and smaller in size than this number. In my opinion, this is not a Haenel type finish as all the mags that i have that are Haenel are a bright polish. This finish almost seems kind of dull to me and seems to match up with the Erma mags I have and I own a 27 40, ayf 41 (slab side like yours), ayf 43 and an ayf 4 (1944). Can you tell us the story of how you "discovered" it? Take care, Haenelistklasse
Petroleum 1
The floor plate set up looks a lot like the beretta 38/42 mags i have. Also the beretta mags are slab side but they are dual feed not at all like the MP40? I wonder if beretta could have some magazines for the MP40 during the war?? huggytree
Came with my mp40 I thought it was a vig mag all along. I was upset when it came with my gun. Thinking I got ripped off of a $100 mp40 mag It weighs less, so thinner metal. Think they would have originally tried making them lighter ? I would think the gauge of metal would be the same. Notice all the dents. It isnt nearly as sturdy as a mp40 mag I was shocked Alex from the mp40 registration had never seen one. As he has an extensive mag collection and knowledge Neat if it was a preproduction mag. I gotta open up my blitzkrieg book again
Haenelistklasse
Actually, Petroleum1 makes a really good point. Perhaps the Beretta factory was producing these for the German guns and since it was pre-war, Beretta was not allowed to mark them? The quality looks excellent. How would you rate the quality? If it is Beretta, it should be nothing but the finest quality from the Italians. I would not expect anything less from their Craftsmen. And believe me, I likes me my German guns but those Italians are in a world of their own. Just my opinion.
huggytree
Its thinner metal. I think its lower quality. Its full of little dents for a reason But Id gladly sell for $1,000 to a museum as test mag #3 made in Italy 1937 Edited February 14, 2019 by huggytree

Petroleum 1
The Italian Beretta mags never had ribs and they are lighter gauge metal compared to the German MP40 mags. Huggy...get the follower out and see if there is any markings on it. Compare that follower to a German one.
huggytree
more pics....other mag is a FXO 41 notice the different size top re-enforcement?the seam on the unknown whereas the mp40 mag has no construction seamthe follower is a bit differentthe bottom of the spring has a metal piece on itthe green/grey color vs mp40 black no markings anywhere except for the #
M17ap
Possibly a mag for Portuguese FBP 48 smg. It’s half MP 40 half Greasegun. Lot of cuts kits sold in past 10 years. IMA still has them. Most notable because guys use these parts to replace 3 piece telescoping recoil spring and bolt with fixed firing pin in their MP 40s to save original 9mm parts. Just my guess. Not 100% sure. Also barrel has bayonet lug and no front sight on barrel but can also be used on MP 40.
huggytree
my Expert Alex says the internals are Vig...he still cant explain the slab side, but i think its a odd version of a vig mag. Maybe they had different producers and one was slab side i always assumed it was a Vig from the start, so no loss
