Kilroy
See my post (#4) below for further information. I recently bought a Reising 65 and I didnt notice until after I took delivery that it has the wrong rear sight on it. I believe it is supposed to have a Redfield No. 70 rear sight. Can someone verify this? Anyone know where I could find one. Edit: I looked at the reference thread above and confirmed that Im looking for a Redfield 70-AT rear sight. If anyone has a lead on one let me know. Its also missing the thumb piece for the magazine catch... anyone know of one? Kilroy
Well, I bought a second M65 with the intent on selling my first one. The first one is a M65 with a serial number 81xx (dont remember the last two off the top of my head. Nothing really wrong with it, other than its not a USMC M65 and someone (whos name is inscribed on the side of the receiver) drilled and tapped it for a scope mount. Other than that, nothing really wrong with it. Its biggest flaw is that its not an USMC contract piece which doesnt tickle my pickle. The second M65 that I just purchased is #745 and its ugly (patina'd a lot). I bought it on an auction site and didnt realize until I got it that it had several issues. Issues that were not in the description. The biggest being that the rear sight is wrong. The rear sight is a Lyman rear sight (57 WJS) that doesnt fit into the inset of the stock so therefore it is non-adjustable. Then I noticed that the scale is missing off the rear sight so its even less usable. After looking at it for a moment longer I realized that the magazine thumb piece was missing and I could not remove the magazine. Then I noticed that the take down screw was incorrect, and the stock has a giant crack in it that has an old repair of wood screw going through it holding it together. Additionally the stock is sanded to death, but I feel that could be easy to miss if you are unfamiliar with these. So, needless to say Im a little disappointed in the rifle. I contacted the seller and they "want to make it right", so I am not going to slam them yet. But I feel that a cursory once over wouldve noted several of the issues. Could I use the parts off my first Reising? Yes, I probably could but now looking at it, I think it may too have the wrong sight... fantastic. I was also hoping to sell the first Reising because I dont really think I need two rifles but if I rob all the parts off of it, is it worth anything to sell? StrangeRanger
Is the mag thumb piece on a 65 the same as the one for a 50/55/60?If it is and you're willing to settle for a repo, Keystone makes a very nice one, virtually indistinguishable from the real thing
Kilroy
Ill have to compare my M55 to the good 65. I feel that the 65 is smaller but thats a guess.
