Thompson Field & Technical Manuals

Recommended Posts

All,

I’m looking for examples of Change Supplements for Thompson Field and Technical Manuals that I don’t already have in my collection. Such items are paper inserts that were published with new information, after the original publication of a manual, and are labeled as “C1,” “C2,” etc., according to which change number they represented. If you have one that I do not already have or know about, I’m interested in obtaining a scan of it, or purchasing it. The material would most likely appear in the second edition of “Thompson Manuals, Catalogs, and Other Paper Items,” when it is published. (No ETA at this time)

FM 23-40 for the M1928A1 Thompson was published in 5 different versions, beginning with the first two versions in 1940 and 1941. Four supplements were published for FM 23-40 as follows:

C1, November 5, 1942, 13 pages (I have this one)

C2, 5 October 1943, 11 pages (I have this one)

C3, 17 February 1944, 2 pages (I have this one)

C4, 6 August 1944, 2 pages (I have this one)

The 3 subsequent versions of FM 23-40 in 1945, 1947, and 1964 contained the supplementary information incorporated within the text.

Two Technical Manuals were published for the M1928A1 and M1 Thompson as follows:

TM 9-1215, Thompson Submachine Gun, Cal. .45, M1928A1, March 1, 1942:

(I am not sure if a supplement exists for TM 9-1215)

TM 9-215, Thompson Submachine Gun, Cal. .45, M1, October 10, 1942

C1, 4 August 1943, 5 pages (I have this one)

I have the following Technical Bulletins for the Thompson, and am interested in any others that exist with TSMG content.

TB 23-40-1, June 3, 1942, 1 Page: “Gun, Submachine, Caliber .45, Thompson, M1928A1 and M1: Deletion of Serial Number From Frame.”

TB 215-1, September 5, 1942, 1 Page: “Gun, Submachine, Caliber .45, Thompson, M1.” (Covers engagement of safety when loaded magazine is in place while bolt is forward in the receiver)

TB ORD 587, 20 December 1954, “Field Inspection and Serviceability Standards for Small Arms Materiel.” (Contains 7 pages on TSMG inspection)

Again, if you have any other supplements or Technical Bulletins that I do not have listed above, I am interested in obtaining further information.

Thanks In Advance!
