Waffen Und Bier
Depp nailed Hunter S Thompson in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Allegedly, Thompson personally shaved Depp's head and Depp wore some of Thompson's shirts in the movie. Thompson's interview by Conan O'Brien in upstate NY is priceless (spoiler.....there are machine guns in it).
OCM
I guess they were pals, Depp looking up to Thompson. I can see that, Depp being a bit on the " outside" of things. Always thought, William J. Helmer was that Hunter S. Thompson sorta type too.

dalbert
I saw Black Mass Tuesday night, and really enjoyed it. It was less violent than I thought it might be. Some of the violence was implied. I would have liked it a little better if they had covered more of the details of the rackets, like in Goodfellas. Depp was incredible. Most of the movie is about the relationship Bulger had with the FBI. I do predict Depp will get an Oscar nomination for his performance. StooperZero
finally watched this last night. pretty good, can't say I didn't giggle at most of the murder scenes. It felt like watching a movie that was actually made in the early 80's . ( and just like 80's movies the 'strangle to death' time is still only 6-12 seconds)
