M2 Carbine Jams

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have an original inland m2. It works flawlessly with 15 round magazines. The thirty rounders are new. But I have about 3 - 4 jams per magazine. They are Seymour mags.

I will try to post a picture of the problem. It's the same problem every time.

Can someone advise a fix??

Mohawk,

Did you post 8 different photos of 8 different SEY mags, all with the same failure to feed?

Or did you post 8 photos of the same mag with 8 FTF.?

Are the SEY mags aftermarket or original USGI/? Is the top front of the mag crimped??

Seymour mags are of the highest quality, whether carbine or TSMG, so its hard to believe you found 8 bad mags.

From what I see, it looks like 8 identical (same) photos. Boots and pants are in focus with no discernable differences and jammed cartridge is out of focus. That being said, is the stamped marking on your mag release button an 'M' with a UNDERLINE. When M2 was developed, it came with an enhanced retaining configuration to reliably hold 30 rounders vs the original 15 round mags. The underline was added to tell the difference from the outside. As DougStump remarked, the original mag release button does not work well for 30 round mags.

Try the newly made 30-round magazines made in Korea, they have a shiny black finish. I have quite a few and they all work flawlessly.
I also have several WWII and Vietnam era 30-round mags, none of them are as reliable as the Korean-made ones.

Note there is a typo in the article; the Vietnam era mags with a J are Jahn mfg

May not be related to your problem, but in addition to the recoil spring, replace all of the springs, particularly the ejector and extractor springs.
