Stamp on Thompson M1928 A1

Recommended Posts

It appears to be the number 23. My guess is this frame was attached to a mis-matched serial numbered receiver that was also marked 23 on the receiver. The owner (military???) probably had a number of Thompson guns with mis-matched receivers and frames and this was the method of keeping the parts together during cleaning, etc. Of course, I am just guessing.

Tom is probably right, it is not a factory applied mark. Sometime in the last 70+ years or so an armorer or unit stamped that number into the frame.

Frank, there is a similar marking on the photo in your book (page 151). And also on a number of Lend-Lease 1928A1.

Alex1970A,

Can you post a picture of the serial number on the above frame? I would like to know if the original serial number has been removed or defaced and a hand stamped or etched number applied.

Thanks!
